In New York State, the 914 area code was one of the first area codes assigned, originally put into service in October of 1947. The 914 area code was originally designated for all of the areas surrounding Manhattan, including Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk Counties. In 1951, the 516 area code was given to Long Island. The 914 area code was split again in 2000, when the 845 are code was introduced to provide service for Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia, Delaware, Greene, and Putnam Counties.
The 914 area code currently provides service for Westchester County, the county immediately adjacent to New York.
The 914 area code covers all of the cities within Weschester County including Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Chappaqua, Bedford, White Plains, Yonkers, Scarsdale, Tarrytown, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Harrison, Croton Falls, Purchase, Rye, and Tuckahoe.
